Welcome to my blog!
If you like barbecuing, grilling and smoking food or just outdoor cooking in general and all the stuff that comes with it – what I like to call “Smokin’ Grillin’ and Chillin’ Lifestyle” – then hopefully this becomes a regular stop for you to hang out.
About 25 years ago we bought our first grill. It was a Lifetyme Grill made by a company out of Uvalde, Texas. I saw it at this booth at the Minnesota State Fair and had to have it. They still make them and we still have it. Best $365 I’ve ever spent. Not even close to top of the line but that was a lot of money for us back then. Had my wife video tape the delivery.
It took a long time for me to really figure it out and know all of its capabilities. And mine to be honest. I’d cook rare steaks one time and extra well done the next. No consistency. And smoking ribs? Not a chance.
Then came the internet. The “Information Superhighway” as it was once called really opened my eyes to the possibilities when it came to grilling. And I was hooked.
Now, I cook more outdoors than indoors. Even in Winter here in Minnesota. The only time I enjoy shoveling is when I’m clearing a path to my grill or cooker.
Rain? Nah. Who cares? I put up a canopy in the back yard and sit under that while stuff cooks. Mosquitoes suck but that’s what Yard Guard is for.
I sit out in the backyard with a beer while stuff cooks. Oh, I cook a lot slower now. It’s more enjoyable and the food is consistently much, much better.
Why am I starting this blog?
I have a passion for what I’ve deemed is a “Smokin Grillin’ and Chillin’ Lifestyle” and I want to share it with you.
Sharing this is a way for me to help other people realize how much quality of life can improve through not just good food but great food. And that YOU can create that better quality of life for you and your family.
And there are other things that happen because of this lifestyle.
It’s also something that can bring families closer.
Our kids are grown. When they find out Dad is going to barbecue my kids cancel stuff to come “home” for dinner. My daughter will drive an hour and a half. I’d like to think it’s really to see Mom and me but who’s kidding who on that one?
I’ll let you know as much as I can on anything from cookers, grills, and smokers to accessories like thermometers to monitor pit and meat temperatures and maybe even some lounge chairs or glassware. Because there is a Chillin’ aspect to this too.
There will definitely be recipes, tips on different techniques in preparation and maybe – if you’re good – beer talk. Mmmm beer.
The Smokin’, Grillin’, and Chillin’ Lifestyle.
It’s easy to have and it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. Well, it could be a leg of lamb.
So come on in and chill.
If you have your own smokin’, grillin’ or chillin’ style please share them with us. Love to hear it since this is our community.
All the best,
